What you will do

In one morning you learn to recognise the most common tricks of digital markets: subscriptions you cannot cancel, fake discounts, costs that appear at checkout, hidden advertising, products that claim to be green. Then, with your team and with artificial intelligence, you build an app that helps other people protect themselves. You start from real cases documented by the authorities and from ready-made modules; mentors are with you all morning. You do not need to know how to code: a smartphone is enough.

Who it is for

For anyone aged 18 or over: the day is designed for young people aged 18 to 24, with priority for university students in the Salerno area, but people over 24 take part on the same terms. Different skills are welcome: computer science and engineering, but also law, economics, communication and design, or simply curiosity. Four challenge cards are designed for 18-year-olds: concert tickets, the first SIM card, online gambling, crypto and finfluencers.

What to bring

  • your smartphone, charged, better with a charger or power bank, and an active data plan;
  • a laptop, if you have one (not required): only a few computers are available in the room;
  • a free Base44 account created before the event with the same email you register with: we invite you to the event workspace, with the necessary credits.

Priority and accessibility

Until Thursday 8 October at 12:00, 15 places on site are reserved for students with disabilities, with a migrant background, in economic hardship or holding a scholarship: you only need to state in the form that you fall into at least one category, without saying which one and without documents. The venue is accessible: if you need anything to take part fully, write it in the form and we will arrange it.

Organisers

Prosumer – Rete di Consumatori Indipendenti APS, a social promotion association in Salerno working on consumer information and protection. The event is part of the Meet and Code 2026 programme, promoted in Italy by TechSoup, supported by Amazon Future Engineer and with Base44 as partner, within EU Code Week. Contacts: direttore@prosumer.cloud or the contact form.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to know how to code?

No. Artificial intelligence writes the code; you bring the ideas, the rules to enforce and the point of view of the people who use the app. If you already code, you can volunteer as a tutor for the other teams.

How much does it cost?

Nothing. The event is free, and the organisers also provide the credits to build the apps.

Can I take part if I am over 24? And if I am under 18?

If you are at least 18, yes: the day is designed for ages 18 to 24 but is open to older people on the same terms. The form asks your age only for statistics: the Meet and Code programme asks that at least 20 participants be aged up to 24. People under 18 cannot take part: write to us from the contact form if you want to hear about activities for other age groups. Videos and graphics published before 5 October still show the 18–24 age range.

Can I come without a smartphone?

Yes, but say so in the form: the CSV workstations are few and we assign them to people without a device.

Can I register with my friends?

Yes: all write the same team name in the form, up to four people.

What happens if places run out?

You join the waiting list and we write to you as soon as a place becomes available. The list follows a public order: first those who declared a priority, then students of the University of Salerno, then the order of registration. You can also turn up at 9:15: at 9:20 we assign the places of absent people following the list, without guarantee.

Why do I have to reconfirm?

To avoid empty places: on Thursday 8 October you receive an email with a link to reconfirm or release your place by Friday 9 October at 12:00. Places that are not reconfirmed go to people on the waiting list.

What is Base44 and do I have to pay for it?

It is a tool that creates apps from instructions written in natural language, also from a phone. A free account is enough: the credits for the day are in the event workspace.

Are the apps I build mine?

Yes: the code stays yours. When you submit, the proposed licence is Creative Commons BY-NC-SA 4.0, so your work stays reusable with credit and for non-commercial purposes; you can choose another one, Creative Commons or a software licence, even a different one for one part (multi-licence), or no open licence at all. An open licence is valid once all authors have confirmed it; the association gallery only takes apps with a confirmed open licence. When confirming, each author may also authorise the association to make the app available through its own tools and channels if it considers it particularly valuable: this is optional.

What do I receive when I submit the app?

A PDF receipt with the fingerprints of the files and the chosen licences: it stays in the association archive and goes to the email of the booking of the person who submits. With an open licence every author receives it, each with a personal link to confirm it with their own booking code.

Are there prizes?

At the end of the day the jury may award three mentions: "Problem", for the most interesting consumer problem identified or brought to light, in the broad sense; "Solution", for the most original solution to an assigned consumer problem; "Code", for a software solution of particular interest. The mentions will be communicated to the winners and published on the pages of the initiative. Any later recognition will have rules published on the Italian page before it starts.

How does the jury work?

The jury is in the room and partly connected online: it follows the presentations together with the audience, also through the live stream on this page when it is active, and scores the apps on a private sheet. The mentions are decided in a private jury meeting, which is not streamed.

Will the apps be published online?

Before making an app available in any form, the association checks that it is eligible: the code, the licences and the authors' authorisations, the association's statute and, only at the end, the rules of any third-party store such as Google Play. It evaluates each proposal and its implementation with the widest discretion, and may add a solution to an association app that brings several contributions together, always crediting each author correctly, within the licence chosen by the authors or with their authorisation. In third-party stores it guarantees neither the listing nor its permanence, and until it is enabled to publish apps there, public appreciation cannot be measured there.

Do I receive a certificate?

Yes: the EU Code Week certificate of participation, which we send by email after the event.

Will there be photos?

Yes, but only of people who agree: at the welcome desk you receive a green lanyard (photos yes) or a red one (photos no), and you can change your mind at any time. After the event, photos and videos chosen by the staff, showing only people who agreed, will appear in the gallery on this page.

How do you process my data?

Only to manage the event and for the purposes you agree to: details are in the privacy notice of the form (Italian). The data go from your browser directly to the association archive and do not stay on this website. For any question write to direttore@prosumer.cloud.

The HTM2026 videos

Four short videos without speech, the same as on the association's social channels (slides in Italian). They start only if you play them; the light version shows only the links.
